One of the sights that was a MUST for us to tour while on our two week long road trip was see the Legendary Hearst Castle in San Simeon.

One of California’s State Parks, this beautiful castle is set upon a hill top overlooking the Pacific Ocean. In 1919, William Randolph Hearst, a newspaper publisher, decided to build his dream home on the land he loved to play on as a child. He hired Julia Morgan to build him a “Ranch at San Simeon” which took approximately 28 years to build. This beautiful estate contains a vast collection of fine art and antiques that are on display.

So as we headed down the coast, the next stop along the way was San Simeon. Our next camp ground on our 2014 Road Trip was San Simeon State Beach.

When planning our 2014 Road Trip, the hubster stated that Alcatraz is a must! A huge fan of The Rock and other films about Alcatraz, its a good thing we decided to plan early! Upon my internet search, one of the few companies that offers tours of Alcatraz is Alcatraz Cruises.

Our friends at Alcatraz Cruises made it possible for us to travel on the date we had selected. TIP: be sure to book early! At Alcatraz Cruises you are able to select a specific date and boarding time, and I highly recommend doing this, because for the summer, they sell out fast!

The whole reason behind the two week long road trip – visiting friends in Deer Park, Washington. One of my husband’s old co-workers moved his family to Deer Park, Washington and built a beautiful log cabin home. They had been inviting us over and over again to come up and visit, that we finally jumped at the chance for a road trip.

So first off, we have to thank Jeff, JoAnna and Noah for inviting us up to Washington to visit them, and for encouraging us to go on this amazing family adventure.

When planning this 2 week long road trip, in talking with a few friends, a couple recommended stopping in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho if we got the chance. They said it was a beautiful little lake town that we really didn’t want to miss.

So after our detour out of Yellowstone National Park, we headed to Coeur d’Alene, and I fell in love.

The next leg of our journey took is to Yellowstone National Park. I was particularly excited about this leg of the trip because I was eager to see Old Faithful.

It was a little overcast while we driving through Yellowstone, but to me, it added to the picturesque landscape.
