When I Grow Up at Pretend City

As a little one, I remember always wanting to be a teacher when I grew up.  Pretend play let me do it all, be a teacher, doctor, chef, and the list goes on and on.  So with our kids, we constantly discuss what they would like to be.  My daughter at age 3, is determined to be a “Mom”, is definitely getting in the practice with 10+ baby dolls.  And my son, has decided at age 4 (almost 5), he wants to follow in daddy’s shoes and be a teacher.

When we were invited to Pretend City‘s Annual “When I Grow Up Day” in August, I thought this would be the perfect event to explore other professions they hadn’t considered.

Pretend City had the following professionals on hand for kids to interact with and learn about their work: Retired Angels Baseball Player, Doctor, Personal Trainer, Shoe Designer, Dentist, Firefighter, Policeman, Lifeguard, Chef and Hairdresser.

Both of my kids being a little shy, were a little leery of the man in uniform.  So we made it a great learning lesson.  We talked about the car accident we saw on the way to Pretend City and how Police Officers are the first responders to the scene.  Also, if they are ever separated from Mom or Dad, Police Officers are the first person to look for help.

My son is currently into anything cars and baseball.  Of course, it probably has something to do with the fact that daddy is a huge Angels Baseball fan, and at one time (in the early 90’s) worked at the stadium in the dugout playing catch with the opposing team’s players for a season.  What an exciting opportunity for my bubs to bring home a signed autograph to daddy – and to tell him that Retired Angel pitcher, Dave Frost pitched to him.

I think I was even more excited that Bubs.

And we love all aspects of Pretend City like playing dentist and learning the importance of brushing our teeth and what braces are.

I think that we will make Pretend City‘s “When I Grow Up Day” an annual event in our household. Every family should!

Disclaimer: We were invited to Pretend City’s “When I Grow Up Day” to review and share with our dedicated readers.  In no way did this alter my opinion of Pretend City.  My opinions are one hundred percent honest and true.

Sharing is caring!

  1. I have seen a lot of folks blog about Pretend City. It’s a bit of a trek for us, but I will make it there once Aubrey is old enough! I think it will be such a fun time! Thanks for sharing and love how they brought in adults for that day!
