Grasslands BBQ & Churrasco Meat Market at the Anaheim GardenWalk

Hosted: It’s all about the meats at Grasslands BBQ & Churrasco Meat Market at the Anaheim GardenWalk. Open for less than a month, the South American inspired restaurant puts guests first with mottos like “We’ll feed you till you’re done” and “Happy ALL the time”. You’ll dine on fabulous Slow Smoked Brisket, Pulled Pork Chimichurri, St. Louis Pork Ribs, Picanha Churrasco, delicious small plates and sides and hand crafted beverages. Then make sure there’s room, because the desserts are just as fantastic.

My family and I were invited to Grasslands BBQ & Churrasco Meat Market at the Anaheim GardenWalk to sample their menu. Once we arrived at The GardenWalk, we noticed the restaurant right away, with the beautiful entry way with the signature grass topped barriers right outside of the patio. Located just below the House of Blues Anaheim, Grasslands is a great option for either lunch or dinner. Once inside, we were greeted with warm hellos and ushered inside to this immense restaurant. Upon meeting Bill Drexel, the owner of Grasslands, we discovered that this establishment was hand crafted. They had a part in building every aspect of Grasslands from the ground up including details like the tables and custom designing the unique restrooms (which I absolutely loved).

Bill toured us through the restaurant and meet market. Such a great concept, you can order your cuts of meat while you’re eating dinner, and they’ll be all packed up and ready to go when you’re done. I was highly impressed with their meats, especially the bacon, which is cut so thick, I could have sworn that Bill said a pound of bacon is about 3 slices. And let me tell you, it was delicious!

Once we arrived back at the tables, the drinks and food appeared. The sodas at Grasslands are all hand crafted beverages made with real cane sugar. We had the opportunity to have a flight of sodas, much to my children’s delight! I even sampled all of the options, and amazingly thought the Root Beer was even tasty. I typically can’t stand Rood Beer.

The food – everything I tasted was delicious. We had a chance to sample the bacon, which I LOVED the thick cut. The St. Louis Ribs were slow smoked for over 6 hours, then wood fired with a deliciously spicy BBQ sauce. A half a rack of these meaty ribs were enough for me along with a side of amazing Brazilian Garlic Rice and oven roasted baby potatoes.

My husband really enjoyed the Open Faced Picanha Sandwich, which is listed under small bites. Thinly sliced Picanha served on Pao de Queijio, topped with a chimichuri sauce, this dish can either be an appetizer or a meal in itself if you’re going light. All “Small Plates” listed run about $5 each. Pair that with a $5 Martini or $5 wine and its “Happy hour all the time”.

One of my favorite dishes was the Salmon Char Grilled with Fresh Herbs. A fresh Pacific Salmon marinated in olive oil, shallots, fresh basil, thyme and dill perfectly grilled with a tasty garlic aioli and served with fresh kale mixed greens. I loved the flavor of the salmon and the variety of herbs in the accompanied salad.

There were so many other delicious options including Arepas, slow smoked brisket, pulled pork chimichurri, all of which I truly enjoyed. The secret to their slow smoked items is that their smoker is sealed tight with a minimal amount of wood chips in the smoker. The result is perfectly smoked meat that is tender and juicy.

To finish off the evening, they brought out their desserts, all in adorable mason jars. They have a “to die for” Cheese Cake, Tierra Massu, Crème Brule and a chocolate brownie mousse. All were heavenly, and the kids literally fought over the chocolate brownie mousse.
