Last week, The Kraken Queen was released at Knott’s Berry farm in the newest spectacular interactive 4-D ride; Voyage to the Iron Reef™. I was excited to take my dad and my munchkins as we were one of the first to ride aboard a submarine inspired ride and cruised through the Iron Reef using freeze rays to shoot the Kraken Queen’s army of sea creatures while we battled it out for the highest scores.
Excited about the new ride, I met my dad for a morning of fun as we were invited to the sneak peek media event for Knott’s Voyage to the Iron Reef. It was certainly a great way to spend a father/daughter day – celebrating Knott’s newest addition to the amusement park.
Check out the introduction to Knott’s Berry Farm’s Voyage to the Iron Reef:
The Voyage to the Iron Reef has found its home where previous rides included Knott’s Bear-y Tales and Kingdom of the Dinosaurs once entertained guests. Now this new 4-D interactive ride will take park guests on quite the adventure, as embark on the four-minute gaming adventure into the Iron Reef.
We started our journey as we entered the four person submarine inspired ride vehicle and began our dive. With the help of 3-D glasses and incredible graphics, you truly felt like you were diving to the ocean floor.
As we spun through the ride, we discovered many of the Kraken Queen’s army of ballooning puffer fish, an iron clad octopus and rays. With our freeze rays, we shot at each of these creatures racking up points in the process as we competed against those on the submarine with us.
When the ride comes to an end, everyone in the submarine (car), compares their scores as we see pictures of us up on a screen with our scores to find out who won the top score.
We enjoyed the ride so much, my dad and I rode it 4 times and I brought back the kids after they finished school so they too could defeat the Kraken Queen and her underwater army. We discovered several ways to rack up points along the way:
- Shoot at the yellow/red areas on the fish, octopus, etc. when they light up.
- You’ll notice star shaped medallions as you go through the ride, shoot for more points.
- Easter eggs of various iconic treasures from Knott’s past are hidden throughout the ride and interact with the blast of a freeze ray.
While I was at the media event, I did have a few questions regarding safety and height ranges for kids, would the kids like it, etc. My kids are now ages 6 and 7 and they absolutely loved it. They rode the ride 2 times in a row.
To ride Voyage to the Iron Reef by yourself, you must be 46″ to ride. Children that are under 46″ must be accompanied by an adult and be placed in the center two seats.
The ride is a rating of 2, which indicates it is a mild thrill ride. While the cars turn, the motion isn’t jerking or very quick – its more of a smooth glide from left to right.
We were able to video the ride so you can see the incredible graphics, creatures and movement in Voyage to the Iron Reef.
