With my handsome boy moving into 1st grade and my princess ready for Kindergarten, we’re always practicing numbers, number bonding (adding) and such.  Their favorite new toy – NumbersAlive.

Numbers Alive

We absolutely love games and learning tools, so when I was contacted about sampling a numbers learning system, I just had to give it a try!

Numbers Alive Circle

NumberAlive is an innovative learning system that encourages numerical literacy through creativity with fun, friendly number characters.  Magnets hidden in the uper right of each number allow children and adults to quickly link numbers together, creating patterns and larger numbers – greater learning.

Numbers Alive Creativity

The NumbersAlive kit we received came in this clear backpack with these adorable stuffed numbers.  My daughter was immediately drawn to them because of the rainbow colors and silly faces. In fact, she immediately took them out and began playing with them like they were her babies.

Hello Numbers is a book that is included in the Numbers Alive kit, introducing toddlers to the numbers with a cute rhyming story.  The last page is filled with stickers of each of the characters (numbers) that children can use inside the book, or wherever else they want to get creative with them.

Numbers Alive Book

Besides the fact that these numbers are cute and adorable, I noticed that on the back, there are dots that correspond with the number.  Learners are able to count the dots on the back to reinforce their comprehension of the number.

Numbers Alive Back of Numbers

The Numbers Lady, Dr. Klemm, with a PHD in Statistics developed Numbers Alive in 2010 to spread her love of numbers and introduce children to math using a fun friendly approach with number characters.

Want to get more creative with the numbers?  There are a varitey of simple activities to do with children to reinforce the numbers concepts (Source:NumbersAlive):

  1. Place number on a floor or table. Point to each number and say it’s name. Count forward and back; count by twos; rearrange the number, etc.
  2. Arrange objects (coins, stuffed animals, pencils) in groups.  Place the number representing the correct quantity in the group.
  3. Make a mobile using string and metal wire (coat hanger) for numbers to attach to.
  4. Find things (groups) in the environment that relate to the numbers; like a number scaveger hunt.
