Now You Can Explore The Deep At Aquarium Of The Pacific | @AquariumPacific

A couple of weeks ago, we were invited to attend the Media Day at Aquarium of The Pacific in celebration of the grand opening of their new exhibits, programs and new retails store.

The kids and I were super excited to receive tickets to check out the new “Wonders Of The Deep” gallery that features new animals such as Flashlight Fish, Inshore Hagfish, Chambered Nautilus, Deep-Sea Isopods, Giant Deep Sea Isopods, Tanner Crabs, Squat Lobsters, Blood Stars, Fragile Urchins, California King Crabs and Echinoderms.  A great learning experience, the kids enjoyed petting the jelly fish and learning about these rarely seen creatures.  Their favorite: The Flashlight Fish that grow up to five inches in length and have bioluminescent bacteria that resides under their eyes, and found as deep as 1,200 feet.

We ventured into the the newly remodeled retail store that is now over 5,000 square feet and features a glass facade with a large underwater image of a kelp forest that makes you feel like you are literally underwater.  The green building design, operation, and management of the new Pacific Collections Store has enabled the Aquarium to become one of the first US aquariums to receive a 3 Globes Rating.  You will be able to get collectible fine art, earth friendly, locally produced, high quality souvenirs and gifts.

Want to see what it’s like to be on a dive with explorers?  Now you have a chance!  The Aquarium Of The Pacific now has an Ocean Exploration Program where you can see live video feeds from the deep ocean and interact with the scientists.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s ship, Okeanos Explorer will stream live feeds, while answering your questions daily.

  1. I love visiting Aquariums and this one sounds like a great ALL day affair for me-unfortunately I live on the opposite coast where luckily there are plenty of great Aquariums also!!
