A New Way To Do Thank Yous for Loved Ones

I remember being a kid, and after every holiday or birthday, my mom constantly reminded us to write Thank You notes to everyone who gave us a gift.  I must admit, I didn’t really like doing them, I don’t think anyone really does, but I wrote them ever time.    In the era we are living in today, are Thank You’s still sent?

Thank You

With my children, I do want to continue the tradition of sending Thank Yous, it only seems proper since that is how I was raised.  However, with today’s technology, I’ve come up with something new – the video Thank You.

It started with Handsome Boys’ birthday back in September.  I just simply forgot about sending Thank You cards because school had started back up and I was swamped.  Feeling guilty about not getting them out in a timely manner, I decided to do a quick video of him with the item received, saying Thank You to that special person who gave the gift, and send it via text message.

The response was awesome.  The family LOVED the Video Thank You’s, responded back right away with texts and messages for him.

Since Christmas, time has gotten away from me again, so back to the Video Message.  However, this time, I decided to make it rather generic so I could send it to many people at once.  Besides, the relatives went a little OVERBOARD on Christmas gifts this year, each kid would be taping a 30 minute video if they listed and showed each item received!!!

Short and sweet, the family loved the messages again!  Taped just before bed time, the kiddos looked especially adorable in their PJ’s.  And again, the family sent back responses right away.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel like hand written Thank You’s are a thing of the past.  When the Princess is forming her own sentences, I’ll probably encourage both of the kids to writing their own Thank Yous, however, for toddlers, this is a great way to personalize the message without having to write it.

And for me, my roll model in Thank You’s was my grandmother. She was notorious for Thank You cards, Birthday cards, Anniverary cards – when I send them, its like a tribute to her.

What creative ways do you use to say thanks to your loved ones?
