I’m sure like for all, Halloween was a crazy fun day. We started off with a bang when we got to school and there was absolutely NO parking. Rather than dropping off, many parents were hanging around for the Halloween Parade.
At 8am, right when the bell rang, we were off. Since my Handsome Boy is in Kindergarten, their classes were first. They stopped off at their classroom to drop off their backpacks and belongings and headed around the building into the quad area. In a semi-single file line (have you ever tried to get Kindergartners to stay in a straight line?) they marched around campus, showing off their unique costumes. Such a fun event for the entire family, I was thankful even my princess was allowed to join in the fun (her school was watching from the lunch benches nearby) even a few parents were dressed to the hilt in their finest Halloween costume.
Back in the classroom, the activities of the day included everything to do with the haunted and spooky. The kids personalized pumpkin that they turned into hats to wear at pickup. They also decorated treat bags for the Halloween party before the end of the day. Pumpkin stories and “core” Halloween themed math rounded out the day.
A tradition we started last year included dinner with grandparents Halloween night. This year, rather than putting together a whole dinner, since I was in the classroom for the day, we decided to head out to dinner. Ihop was the place of choice so the kids could create Halloween funny face pancakes. Added bonus, one of Melissa’s friends and family were able to join us too. Made for a crazy silly time at dinner, but you know, you dangle that “you won’t be able to trick-or-treat unless you eat” in front of them and they powered down their food.
Back at our house, the carriage was cleaned and ready to go. For the last two years, we’ve taken out the wagon on Halloween to help carry the Princess and the candy. This year, it was even more fun because we had another passenger. The night ended when the parents pooped out (the kids wanted to go for another hour!). It was time to get the kids in bed and ready for school the next morning – after we sorted through a little candy and a late night snack.
