Now that the holidays are upon us, I love being able to share heartwarming stories about people giving back in the community. Universal Studios Hollywood’s employees banned together recently in support of the 300 homeless children from Operation School Bell.
The inspirational “Day of Giving” event is a yearly Universal Studios Hollywood tradition designed to connect employees with diverse community organizations, many of which are beneficiaries of the Discover A Star Foundation whose mission is to empower individuals and families to lead more productive and fulfilling lives.
As part of the event, children received a selection of new clothing and school supplies, followed by an afternoon of fun that included a visit to “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” a chance encounter with Minions to experience the popular “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” ride and “Super Silly Fun Land” play zone, and a behind-the-scenes look at how movies are made on the world-famous Studio Tour.
The day-long event will also supported several other non-profit organizations:
- Project Angel Food: Employee volunteers prepared and packaged meals for terminally ill clients.
- Tree People: Employee volunteers assisted with tree care, maintaining trails, and removing invasive plants.
- MEND: Volunteers assisted with the sorting and management of donations in MEND’s Emergency Foodbank and Clothing Center.
- Union Rescue Mission’s Hope Gardens: Volunteers transformed indoor and outdoor living spaces that will serve as educational, recreational and enrichment areas for children.
- Shane’s Inspiration: Shane’s Inspiration, where employees took part in a “play date” with special needs children at a nearby Shane’s Inspiration playground.
