It’s time to start thinking about summer camp for the kiddos. Check out the following summer programs offered by ExplorOcean this summer:
Lego Robotics Engineering Camp
ExplorOcean and Mathobotix have teamed up to offer robotics camps that spark the minds of young children and teenagers through STEM education. Camp focuses on team problem-solving and creative thinking. Kids have fun while learning basic static structures used in robotics by applying the fundamentals of math and science concepts. They build their robots and program them using Lego© NXT software. They enjoy playing drag race and Sumo with fellow team members. The robot cadets compete in mini team competitions demonstrating their projects in a Show & Tell to the audience.
Dates: July 7 – 11, July 21 – 25, August 11 – 15, August 18 – 22, and August 25 – 29, 2014 9am – 4pmAges: 6 and older
Extended hours: 8am – 9am or 4pm – 6pm. $15 per hour. Can opt-in on a day-by day basis.

Underwater Robotics
Over the course of the week, students will build a submersible ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and simultaneously develop an understanding of the science principles in play. Campers will explore and investigate sub design, waterproofing, buoyancy, displacement, motor movement, propulsion, soldering, how ROVs are used for research purposes, and more! At the end of the week, campers will showcase their ROV and describe the problem solving, critical thinking, and innovations that contributed to their final product. Campers will keep their customized ROV!
Dates: July 21 – 25, August 11 – 15 and August 18 – 22*, 20149am – 12pm or 1:30pm – 4:30pm
Ages: 9 and older

Materials fee: $80 Students build their own ROV and will keep it at the end of the camp (Please visit seaperch.org to preview the kit). Additional needs: Participants must bring their own snacks and lunch if they are not purchasing. Note: Limit 20 participants per session. A minimum of 5 participants is required. Must register the Thursday before camp begins. No refunds will be given.

Makers Camp
The ExplorOcean Makers Camp is exploration at its finest. Campers will participate in guided projects using LittleBits, Makey Makey tools, and more. They will also create self-designed inventions using their base kit (included in the materials feel) and all of the tinker tools they can get their hands on in our innovation lab! From mini-motors to laser cutters, alligator clamps to pipe cleaners, conductive paint to play dough….the ExplorOcean Innovation Lab surrounds campers with all of the tools to explore, imagine, and create. This is the dreamer’s dream camp!
