While preparing for our 2014 road trip, I had decided to make larger portions of food so that I could intentionally freeze leftovers. By the time we packed up the Willey Mobile for our 2 week trip, we had several meals already set, but I was looking for other options for quick, convenient and tasty meals the family would love. Thanks to our friends at Sous Kitchen, we had the final pre-packaged meals ready to go.
Sous Kitchen is a great meal delivery service for those who love delicious, healthy meals but lack the time to plan, shop and prepare in advance. Imagine receiving pre-packages meals, prepped and ready to cook on your doorstep.
Whether we were eating at home or camping, Sous Kitchen really made it convenient. We had the opportunity to select and sample two meals and absolutely LOVED them.
First we sampled the Huli Huli Pork. For one, the convenient packaging was perfect for our small RV freezer (each meal needs to remain frozen until you’re ready to use). We took the meal out the night before to start the thawing process and after a few hours, placed the package in the refrigerator for the following day.
I had a small glass dish on hand that I placed the pork in and put it into the RV oven to cook. Still unsure of the exact temperature of our oven, we kept a close eye while cooking. Approximately 25-30 minutes later, the pork was ready to serve.
In the mean time, I boiled the rice on the stove as the directions indicated and a beautiful healthy meal was ready for the family after they explored the campsite.
The Sous Kitchen meal portions come in a medium packaging – for families of 3-4 people and large packaging – for larger groups of 6-8 people at approximately $5 – $6 per person. The medium portion was perfect for us, and the kids were excited there was a little left over for seconds – they loved it!
Because I was a little nervous running the generator all day while traveling, I decided to wait until we got home to cook the All American Pulled Beef. I had a slow cooker in the RV, but it needed to cook for 9-10 hours and that wasn’t so safe while driving to our next destination.
However, when we were home – it was fabulous! Throw the beef in the slow cooker all day, 20 minutes before serving, prepare the rice and grab a couple of fresh tomatoes from the garden and we had a delicious, healthy meal ready to go.
Worried about delivery? Sous Kitchen meal kits come in convenient, insulated boxes filled with dry ice that can sit on your doorstep for up to a day.
