Starting at about 6 months I enrolled my son in a “Mommy and Me” class at the Garden Grove School District. My mother-in-law heard about the class, and gave me the information as she knew I was looking to start my son off with early learning. I felt that socializing him early was the key in making him a well rounded boy.
Eventually that class came to a close because there wasn’t any more funding through the school district. I wanted to keep him enrolled in a school, but where to find a school that I felt comfortable with. I began the hunt, asking friends, family, even my husband’s co-workers. We were given names of about 5-6 different schools/day care centers that were local so I began making appointments. One of the most difficult decisions a parent needs to make is placing your kids in a place that you feel will give your child quality care and a great education. Each school we walked into just wasn’t right. I didn’t “feel” it. I figured my “parent’s intuition” would tell me which school was right for us. And I found it. Amazingly, it was a school my husband went to as a preschooler. We were “home”.
Did you know that ninety percent of a child’s brain develops by the age 5? These early years are critical to the development of how a child thinks, feels, acts and interacts with others. To help parents who need to find someone to watch their child during these early development years, First 5 has launched “Quality Child Care Lasts a Lifetime,” campaign aimed at informing parents about the life-long benefits of quality early care and education and tips to help them make informed decisions. At Ready Set Grow LA you can find a checklist that includes 5 steps to help parents select quality child care. They also have a number of resources to assist parents for things like vaccinations, coupons, emergency preparedness and more.
Be sure to bookmark this website: Ready Set Grow LA. I’m sure we’ll be referencing it quite a lot while our children grow up and become amazing adults.
