Have you been to Knott’s Berry Farm recently?  We go pretty regularly, as it’s a great family theme park with affordable season passes.  Well, they’re changing things up a bit as they’re under construction!  They will be offering enhancements to classic,  new rides, new entertainment and new food options this season making it the ideal family destination.

For starters, one of the oldest and most popular rides at Knott’s Berry Farm is getting a “face lift”.

Making a new comeback is the Timber Mountain Log Ride.  A little history: The Calico Log Ride, as it was originally named, takes guests through an 85-foot-high by 330-foot-long mountain range themed to a nineteenth-century lumber camp.  The ride, housed in an eight-story building, includes 24,000 gallons of water that circulates free floating logs past a variety of mechanical figures and taxidermied animals culminating in a forty-two-foot free fall.  The much anticipated attraction opened in July 11, 1969 with screen legend John Wayne taking the inaugural ride.

In January, Garner Holt Productions of San Bernardino started the revitalization project that is expected to take five months.  Thursday, May 30th; Memorial Weekend, the Timber Mountain Log Ride will reopen with over 40 animated human forms and 12+ recreated animals.  Some fun facts: Did you know the support beams of the Log Ride are actually disguised as trees throughout the ride?  This will continue with the re-opening. And with the picture above, originally there were 3 taxidermied animals, now there will be around 12 that will be taking over a camping scene – fun, right?

This summer (2013), you’ll have to check out The Boardwalk Pier It will host 3 new family attractions including:

  • Coast Rider: This fast flying coaster will have everyone clinging to the handrails as they ascend 52 feet for a harrowing journey down a 1,339 foot track filled with hairpin turns, twists and spins.
  • The Surfside Gliders: Want to pilot your own two-man aircraft?  Guests will be able to take control as they soar above the boardwalk.
  • Pacific Scrambler:  Like to get a little “shaken up” a bit?  Spin round and round the boardwalk in this classic fun ride.
These three rides, along with updated gift shops and restaurants will give this little corner of Knott’s the “California Boardwalk” feel right were Perilous Plunge was located.
