Ever since I’ve become a Mom, I have a heightened sense of germs. Did you know that an exposed toothbrush can come in contact with all kinds if surface and airborne germs? I was recently given a sample of the IntelliDent Toothbrush Shield that reduces the exposure about 99%.
I had never considered that simply laying your toothbrush on the counter or placing it in a cup alongside another would put you at risk of catching the common cold, or spreading any type of germs found on the counters surface. Leaving your toothbrush in a dark cabinet is a breeding ground for germs. I think the most disturbing fact that I found in the literature was that “flushing a toilet releases a fine mist of airborne droplets that settles on surfaces with a 6 foot radius of the toilet “- now that is just gross!
The IntelliDent Toothbrush Shield is made of non-woven material that creates a barrier between germs and airborne bacteria. It also wicks await the moisture and accelerates the drying process – another bacteria fighting feature.
So I have been using the IntelliDent Tooth Brush Shield for 2 weeks now. I like the idea that I am protecting my toothbrush against germs. And I have noticed that my toothbrush dries faster and feels cleaner. I just have to remember to recover my toothbrush after every use.
You can try it out for yourself. It is available Nationwide at Walgreens, and other leading pharmacy chains. For $2.19 for a 3-pack or $4.29 for a 10-pack.
Here are some helpful tips on brushing every mom needs to know from Dr. Gerry Curatola, an Internationally recognized “Dentist To The Stars”, Oral Health Expert, Researcher, and Author:
- You should start brushing your infants gums at 4 months. Doing it twice a day ensures proper care and practice in a routine.
- A baby’s first tooth brush can be as simple as a piece if gauze wrapped around a clean finger. As your child’s teeth develop, move to a soft bristle toothbrush.
- Cover your toothbrush with a breathable cover such as the IntelliDent Toothbrush shield to protect against germs and bacteria while letting it dry.
- Graduate from bottles and pacifiers that can cause tooth decay and tooth mis-alignment. Redirect children to new comfort items such as a teddy bear or blanket.
- Set the example. The more you do it, the easier it will be for your child to get into the habit.
I leave my tooth brush tucked away in the drawer. I didn’t think about that being just as gross as leaving it out on the counter. This sounds like a cool product.
