A sponsored giveaway written by Kirstin Rowe for Toddler Trails on behalf of Epoch By Designs
The day has come to say goodbye to my family’s “nursery”. For 8 years, it has been mint green, blue with a very adorable Winnie the Pooh theme. My son came along and it was his for two years until my daughter was born. We figured everyone loves Winnie the Pooh, right? No need to change the theme.
I am not sure when it started happening but my little girl started growing up and having her own opinions on her likes and dislikes and her room and bed were not on her like list. She thought it was too “babyish”.
I had asked her what she had in mind and she had already had ideas. First off, she wanted a loft bed with a desk underneath. Second, it had to be Monster High themed. YIKES! The first was easy, I received an invitation to review a great line of beds from Epoch by Design. The second, not so easy. Have you SEEN the obnoxious colors of Monster High?
I really didn’t mind getting my daughter a loft bed because her room is only 8×10 and space is at a premium. I felt that a loft bed would not only give her more space to play, it would also give her a place to grow into for studying.
As I looked at the options for loft beds, I chose the McKenzie Hardwood Study Loft Bed for its large desk, shelves, baskets, and the bonuses: a cork board and peg board that slides across the under-side of the bed. The frame of the McKenzie loft bed is made of hardwood Birch and Birch veneers for strength and durability and fits a twin sized mattress and meets all CPSC and ASTM safety standards. It comes in in either a light natural birch or dark coffee finish. We chose the natural birch to match the furniture in her room.
I thought this Epoch by Design loft bed would be a great way to showcasing her art-work and favorite photos. It took about 3 hours to build the bed and the result was perfect! She is too young for a computer just yet at six, but the slide out keyboard holder and hard-drive shelf keeps everything out of the way while not jeopardizing the space. There is even an area for a future printer!
For now, she uses her desk for her “office”, where she takes care of her stuffed animals and teaches her dolls how to read.
When we started thinking of a loft bed, the first thing that I wanted for her was a little hide-away area where a growing girl could have a little privacy. We achieved that by hanging a spring loaded curtain rod across the bottom of the bed so she could have a “door” for her hideout.
The Monster High theme is a little on the “wild side”. Since I didn’t want a “goth”(hot pink and black) room, we looked at lighter colors(pink and purple) for the walls while high-lighting Monster High with wall decals. My daughter loves zebra prints and when I saw the pink and black curtains it worked out great, keeping out the early morning light. A solid colored bedspread with Monster High throw pillows and a beanbag chair we discovered at our local Walmart store, completed the the Monster High themed room.
My 5 going on 15 year old was SO happy with her bedroom! She now has a “big girl” bed and more space to play. The only thing that has disappointed her was that we were not buying her a computer to go with her new computer desk. Not yet, little one, you have a few more years.
