Last week we were invited to sample a Huntington Beach neighborhood restaurant called Solita. I’ve had a few friends mention to me, how much they love Solita’s from scratch recipes that are full of smoky flavors of wood and charcoal grilled meats with fresher, healthier and unique authentic Mexican options for the entire family – I was looking forward to sampling it for myself.
Solita Tacos & Margaritas is located in the Bella Terra shopping mall in Huntington Beach, making it the perfect spot for lunch or dinner after a day of shopping or, a perfect meet up spot with friends or family. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff and were immediately seated right the middle of the restaurant. From where we sat, we could see right inside the kitchen were the waiters and waitresses assemble the orders once they are completed by the chef. On the other side of us was a big spacious patio used for larger groups or parties and overlooked some of Bella Terra.
To start off the evening we decided on Margaritas. The Hubster decided on the Kiwi Strawberry Margarita because he is just so sweet ;-), while I decided to go with Solita’s signature Grande Casa Noble Margarita. What makes this margarita so special is that it is shaken tableside with Solita’s private label single barrel reposado directly from Casa Noble. Let me tell you, it was fantastic, and something I should have split with The hubster since I’m such a light weight when it comes to specialty beverages.
Next, we decided on appetizers. The hubby and my princess both decided they wanted their favorite – guacamole. However at Solita, they serve it in a fried tortilla bowl topped with diced mango, tomato, onion, serrano chile and cilantro. It was as pretty as it was delicious.
At Solita, you can make a meal out of their appetizers as we also ordered the Ceviche Tropical. Made from delicious fresh sun fish and serrano chiles, cucumber, bits of tropical fruit like mangos, salsa fresca and avocado – my husband and I ended up fighting over the very last bite. My daughter, who surprisingly likes a little spice with her food, loved the Grilled Corn Elote.
The Grilled Corn Elote is a whole ear of sweet corn roasted and grilled with butter, chipotle salsa, California chiles, cotixa and green onions. Once it is brought to the table, the waiter or waitress cuts the corn off the cob to be served. I loved the mix of the sweet, salty and touch of heat. A must order.
The kids LOVED their items – they both chose the two taco kids plate. Perfect for each of them, they could customize it any way they wanted with their side dishes. The chicken taco is fantastic! It’s a slow roasted chipotle chicken with a smokey flavor. I am not a big chicken fan, but I loved these tacos.
The Hubster enjoyed Solita’s fabulous wood grilled fajitas. The chicken was so delicious and tender mixed with caramelized veggies including red peppers, red onions and roasted poblano chilies.
Solita’s dishes are fresh and delicious, simple and light and full of authentic flavors inspired by the best of our travels through Baja California and Mexico. We are certainly looking forward to returning. I especially am interested in sampling other specialties including the Calamari and Garlic Shrimp.
