Movie Night and Star Gazing with Ice Age: Collision Course | @FHEInsiders #ScratInSpace #CollisionCourse

Ice Age Collision Course - Scrat

To start off the movie screening evening, we were very excited to dig into the party accessories that Twentieth Century Fox sent us. We had a cosmic adventure in store based on the items included in the kit: Ice Age blanket, glow in the dark stars a Smithsonian Telescope, a Smithsonian Rocket Launcher, a Smithsonian Projector and a star finder book.

Ice Age Collision Course Star Gazing Movie Night

While getting ready for our movie night, the kids were first intrigued with the Smithsonian Optics Room Planetarium and Dual Projector Science Kit. My children got a kick out of projecting planets, moons, satellites and stars on the ceilings, walls, anywhere they could in the house. My handsome boy decided to claim the projector for his room as his night light.

Then it was all about the rocket launch. The Smithsonian Science Activities Rocket Science Kit was quite interesting for my littles. They couldn’t understand how a rocket would fly with baking soda and vinegar.

Smithsonian Rocket Launch

We decided to move our Rocket Launch experiment outside. The hubster took over while I said I’d video the event in order to capture the rocket launch for the kids. We had 5 attempts, each one going higher and higher – but honestly, I think we spilled more ingredients (baking soda and vinegar) than what we used as rocket fuel.

We started the movie while eating dinner, and got lost in Scrat’s mission to capture the acorn as well as Manny and his friends. Once the stars were out, we decide to do a little star gazing with our NSI/Smithsonian 30X Telescope/Monocular. I was amazed how well we were able to see the moon with this little telescope, and utilized our National Geographic Backyard Guide to the Night Sky book to figure out which constellation we were looking at.
