For our two week road trip, the first stop was Las Vegas. My mom and step-dad moved there over a year ago, so we try to visit as often as we can. Besides, the kids just love hanging at their place, I mean who wouldn’t with a pool and a putting green?
They live about 25 minutes from the strip and have many fun places to share with us when we get into town. For instance, The Container Park.
The Container Park is located near Downtown Las Vegas at the end of Freemont Street. You know you’ve reached your destination when you see the giant praying mantis that throws fire from his antenna in the evenings at the entrance of The Container Park.
A unique way to recycle old used containers, the builders of The Container Park designed a fairly modern place for locals and tourists to hang out. You will find unique merchants along with fancy eateries and bars. During the day, it is a great location for family fun.
A giant tree is in the middle of the promenade where children and adults can climb or walk up the steps to the awaiting slide that swirls down the trunk. Foam building blocks are on the grounds in front of the tree for young imaginations to build towers or fortresses, while parents look on from the scattered benches.
Continue on through the courtyard and you’ll find a large grassy area that ends at a stage where bands and performers entertain the crowds. Through the summer, they are offering free concerts in the park.
At 9 PM The Container Park turns into an adult playground. Since we had our children with us, we didn’t get the opportunity to say and enjoy the night life, but there was a cute bar called The Bin that looked like fun. I’ve also heard that there may be entertainment in the evening during the summer.
