Lately I have had additional issues with my blood pressure. My numbers have been on the rise, and was recently discovered during a routine 3 month blood pressure check with my physician. Unfortunately, because of this, I now am on an additional medication to maintain my blood pressure. To me, this is not the greatest of news, because it reinforces the fact that I haven’t been taking great care of myself. Now it’s time for me to join the Cigna’s Go. Know. Take Control. campaign, which reminds us that it is important to get annual check-ups, know your vital numbers, and take control of your health for good.
Friday I had the opportunity to participate in the Cigna Blogger Great Race, an exclusive media event where we competed in teams around Disney’s California Adventure theme park. We were given a booklet with clues and special tasks for us to accomplish and share via twitter. To see the race and healthy choices we made around the park, search the hashtag: #CignaRunTogether. I’ll share some of the fun:
Along the race, we did jumping jacks with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, ran with Princess Elena of Avalor and lunges with Buzz Lightyear. We learned that healthy snacks are better than those filled with butter and salt, and fish makes a fantastic choice. (Photo credit: Carlee Padot McClurg, partner on Team Daisy)

During runDisney, we discover inspirational stories, like Christi Maxwell’s mom, who has been diabetic for more than 30 years, and now faces dialysis. When Christi went to an annual check – up several months ago and learned she, too, was diabetic, she knew she needed to take control of her health. Her motivation? Mom.
Christi won an employee – wide contest at Cigna, where she works in Texas as a manager on the Customer Advocacy Coaching team. Since her appointment, Christi has lost more than 15 pounds and lowered her A1C levels by 2 points goals. She’s also staying active every day, and is looking forward to running in the Disneyland ® 5K.
My journey to Disneyland has inspired me to take control of my health,” said Christi. “Diabetes impacts so many people of all ages. I want to learn from the struggles I watch my mom go through and to be a better me, mom, wife, sister and daughter.”
It’s time! Time to take better care of ourselves and enjoy it! I’ve always thought cross training was intense exercise, but if you find something you love, you’ll stick with it. Switch it up, make better choices and join me in achieving our optimal health.
