Last week a few friends and I were invited to Mimi’s Café to sample their new menu items and frites that are already being offered in a location near you.
Imagine the cuisine of France. Mimi’s Café’s culinary team spent more than two months in France, perfecting authentic frites. Haven’t heard of frites? Well, you’re not alone. I was told Frites are hand cut, fried to ordered fresh potatoes that are seasoned with a little sea salt and fresh herbs. Yes, basically they’re considered “French Fries” – but they are quite amazing, and are now the center of the new entrées added to the Mimi’s Café menu.
When we arrived at Mimi’s Café, we were greeted by Chef Katie Sutton. Chef Katie, absolutely loves doing what she does – and it just oozes from her fun, energetic personality. It was so fun talking with her, about her experiences, how she came up with the new entrées and her love for deliciously authentic cuisine.
We started with Mimi’s Café’s house salad. A light dish of mixed greens in red wine shallot vinaigrette topped with tiny tomatoes and croutons.
Then Chef Katie insisted that we sampled the Meyer Lemon Mussels and Frites. Now I’m not a fan of mussels, but with Chef Katie’s passion about this entrée, I felt I just had to try it – which I ended up loving! The mussels were cooked to perfection and juicy sweet. The sauce was amazing, made of white wine, lemon broth and fresh herbs. If you try it – I must recommend dipping a few frites in it – scrumptious.
For the main dish, I selected the Steak Frites, which is a 28- day aged New York strip 10oz steak; made to order, with a deliciously house made thyme and garlic butter sauce.
Other main dish options that I was too full to sample (but my friends enjoyed) included:
The Grilled Salmon & Frites – an Atlantic salmon with a dab of the house made lemon garlic butter paired with hand-cut frites and sautéed garlic spinach.
The Roasted Chicken & Frites – A beautifully slow roasted half chicken sprinkled with house made rosemary herbs de Provence butter and hand cut frites.
To finish off the evening, we were served a fantastic Crème Brulee Cheesecake. Let me give you a tip: make sure you leave a little room to have this decadent dessert. This vanilla custard cheese cake has a caramelized sugar crust and a strawberry puree – so good that you won’t want to share.
I’m excited about Mimi’s Café’s new menu, especially their frites – but if you’re not in the mood for the potatoes, there are other side options available like fresh vegetables, fruit, etc.
Be sure to keep your eyes out for new menu items coming to their breakfast menu sometime in November.
A special thanks to my friends and Mimi’s Café and Chef Katie Sutton for a delicious night out with friends.
