Sunday, February 13th, Orange County residents are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a FREE Metrolink ride into Chinatown in Los Angeles from the Irvine Metrolink Station. Be one of the first 100 guests and you’ll receive a FREE round-trip on the Metrolink to ring in the Year of the Monkey at the 117th Golden Dragon Parade.
If you’re planning on joining in on the celebration, you’re going to want to head out early! Tickets will be handed out started at 8am at the Irvine Station: 15215 Barranca Parkway in Irvine. Free parking, lion dance entertainment and refreshments will be available at the station before attendees depart on the 9 a.m. train to Los Angeles Union Station.
Upon arrival at Union Station, Metrolink riders can use a free transfer on the Gold Line to Chinatown. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of LA will be hosting the 115th Annual Golden Dragon Parade that starts at 1pm. Since the mid-1980’s, the Golden Dragon Parade has expanded to include almost two dozen floats, multiple marching bands, government officials, various dignitaries, entertainers, local business leaders and cultural groups. The parade’s theme emphasizes ethnic diversity, Chinese Culture and exposure to Chinese-American businesses.
Riders also can take advantage of Metrolink’s $10 Weekend Pass, which allows passengers to ride to any Metrolink destination all weekend long. The pass includes free rail and bus connections throughout Southern California.
