Last night, I took my mom out on a “girls night” to see Oz The Great and Powerful. We headed from the OC out to Burbank to the AMC, for the pre-screening we were invited to.
In true Disney fashion, there has been an enormous amount of publicity for this film. From posters and advertisements, to blogger media coverage (yes, I have followed fellow blogger coverage of all things “OZ”), to the numerous amounts of commercials that my kids now have memorized, I couldn’t wait to see this film. My kids already have their favorite characters picked out – of course, my daughter: China Girl and my son: Finley the monkey.
For me, I LOVED the movie. The visual effects and graphics, characters, story line, costumes, and humor all combine to create a fabulous blockbuster for Disney. I truly loved the character Theodora played by Mila Kunis, the naive younger sister that becomes heartbroken and vengeful as the Wicked Witch of the West. My mom, her favorite as “China Girl” played by Joey King. She, like all girls who watch this film, fell in love with her in an instant with her beautiful blue eyes, her innocence and her feisty side.
I will have to caution you, however, if you are going to take children – specifically of toddler age and younger, I may think twice. My son, age 5, would not be comfortable watching the Wicked Witch’s baboon minions who were quite scary.
Check out the video below that was just posted by Disney. A hilarious new video interview with Zach Braff (“Finley”) and Joey King (“China Girl”) where they interview each other about OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL which opens in theaters this Friday!
