Living in Anaheim, the hubster and I love any chance we get to sample a new local restaurant. Opened since right around Mother’s Day, May 2014 Calivino Wine Pub is the perfect spot for date night, especially if you are visiting The Honda Center or Angels Stadium of Anaheim or even an event at the The Grove for a special event or performance.
Calivino Founder Daniel Bradley designed and built the Calivino Wine Pub concept from the ground up with a casual comfortable feel. For those who are interested in relaxing and catching a game on the big screen tv above the bar, a comfortable couch can be found in the corner. High top and low top tables in settings of four can accommodate larger parties.
Chef Patrick Dale combined quite a line of beer and wine that compliments tasty appetizers, entrees, and desserts. We had the opportunity to sample a couple of recommendations like the Clayhouse Adobe White Blend wine which i really enjoyed. The Hubster sampled the Hanger 24 pale ale with caramel, one of their most popular beers.
“I wanted to create a space that is classy but not pretentious,” says Bradley. “Calivino offers a lively yet comfortable atmosphere, complete with great wine, craft beer, and fantastic food.”
We started off the evening at Calivino Wine Pub with a light appetizer, the Spinach Wonton. I believe that was our favorite dish, which I could have made a meal! These delightful tasty bites were loaded with baby leaf spinach, parmesan and garlic with a creamy side dipping sauce.
Since the kids were with us, they were in the mood for a classic cheese burger. The House Burger was made with chuck beef. Since it was for the kiddos, we decided to have the fried onions and onion jam on the side. The onion jam – so tasty that I added it to my sandwich!
I ordered the Chicken and Brie Panini. Braised free range chicken grilled just right, topped with brie cheese, cranberry sauce and honey. The dominant flavor of this sandwich was the cranberry sauce, reminding me of Thanksgiving.
The hubster ordered the Autumn Salad with Chicken, which he really liked. Spinach leaves loaded with Danish blue cheese, green Apple, dried cranberries and chicken. He loved that it was lightly covered with a vinaigrette dressing.
Finally, we all decided to split a dessert since we were quite full, however, the Chocolate Lava Cake was calling to us. A coffee reduction with white chocolate nibs, whipped cream is a chocolate lover’s heaven. Be sure to order in advance because it is made to order.
