Islands Restaurant is now at the Shops at Mission Viejo. Their newest, beautiful location features an open and airy layout, well known surf-inspired décor, a relaxing patio for outdoor dining and 14 big screen TVs throughout the restaurant ideal for cheering on sports teams or catching the latest surf videos.
We were invited to check out the newest Islands Restaurant in Mission Viejo and love the open feeling of this new location. If you are shopping at The Shops at Mission Viejo and stumble upon Islands, you’ll discover that one wall of the restaurant up completely to the mall. This is a great place to sit if you enjoy people watching. And, passers by can check out latest game scores as there are two gigantic big screens that face the mall walkway.
The other side of the restaurant has massive windows and opens to a beautiful patio if you’re interested in outside seating.
The staff at the Mission Viejo location is a mix of new and seasoned waiters and waitresses. Those with a longer history with Islands Burgers are thrilled at the newest location which relocated from the Kaleidoscope Center down the street. Funny, but with my husband’s love for the Denver Broncos, he hit it off with both our waitress and one of the waiters when we walked in. We certainly enjoyed that personal touch.
We decided to start with an appetizer. Typically we order their Cheddar Fries, but this time, since my daughter is a BIG fan of chili fries, we opted to have chili and chives added. What a great option. The chili was beefy and tasty, and without beans.
Since it was a day of trying new Island Burgers selections, we also opted for the Buffalo Wing. I do not like wings, however, my husband and daughter both LOVE them. They said they were very tasty, and didn’t have a whole lot of spice – perfect for my princess. She also enjoyed dipping them in ranch dressing, with her, you need quite a lot!
My little guy went for his favorite: Islands Burgers Jr. Macaroni & Cheese. For him, it was quite a big portion for my finicky eater, but he managed to polish it off.
The hubster opted for his favorite as well – the Maui Burger. The Maui is a deliciously juicy burger, cooked just the way you like it, loaded with Guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, Swiss & mayo. He added a couple of slices of bacon to personalize it.
I usually order the Island Fish Tacos, but on this occasion, decided to go with the Mahi Mahi fish tacos and added a little sour cream and guacamole. It was fantastic! Tender chunks of Mahi Mahi topped with cabbage, tomatoes, their chipotle-white sauce and served with a side of ranchero beans. I’d certainly order again!
