When I was growing up, one of my favorite treats was staying over at my grandmothers. She was great fun; she made me burgers for breakfast, just because I asked for them. She played hide and seek with me, even though she was finding it increasingly hard to move around, and she had an electric blanket that kept my bed warm and cosy.
Now that I’m older and a mom myself, and I’m living in a home that can get quite cold in the evening, I’m always looking for ways to keep me and my little ones warm at night, especially in the winter, and I’ve found that an electric blanket is one of the easiest ways to do this. It can be a real treat for the kids, especially after a long, cold winter day spent outdoors with friends and family.
While newer models allow the user to keep the electric blanket on all night, this is sometimes a luxury that I don’t feel my kids either need, or one that I can afford. Fortunately, we now have electric blankets that come with a timer, so what I like to do is switch on their electric blankets for an hour before the kids’ bedtime, and the blanket will magically switch itself off after an allotted time.
This means that not only will their once icy cold sheets be warm and welcoming, but it also ensures that my children will go to bed on time, as they know the later they stay up, the colder their bed will be!
While I know some mothers can be a little hesitant to buy an electric blanket for their little ones, I’ve found that they have been a lifesaver, especially in the cold winter months. I started using them around the time my kids were 4, and only when it got very cold. I will add that I never used them when my kids were babies or infants, as unlike adults, very young children cannot regulate their body temperature, and so, I would just put them to bed with an extra blanket or two.

I miss having an electric blanket for my bed. 🙂
